Afghanistan
As the War in Afghanistan draws to a close, the situation for Afghanistan's millions of refugees grows more and more precarious. Over two million do not have access to clean drinking water, nearly five million are not in school, and three million refugees are living in camps or in neighboring countries. One million children under the age of five are acutely malnourished, one million are heroin or opium addicts, and nearly nine million people cannot feed themselves adequately.
Legally, the Afghans mentioned do not count as refugees and would be unable to use the asylum system in the United States.
